At the beginning of the XIV century, wine originated a great thriving period for Haro. The moment of biggest growth, at the end of XIX century, was when French needed to buy a lot of Rioja's wine and the train station was inaugurated, connecting Haro with Bilbao port. In 1852, Bordeaux zone vineyards were attacked by mildew. As a consequence, it appeared a decade of limited and scarce vintage. To overcome this difficulties French wine maisons sent their buyers to several Spanish regions. Once the mildew was eradicated, the French interest diminished, but in 1867 appeared the phylloxera in France, Beginning the final impulse of Rioja's wine. Every year French commissioners came to Spain with the aim of tasting, selecting and buying wine. This commerce was encouraged by Franco-Spanish treaty 1882, where custom taxes were reduced. As time went by, several French people established wineries according French model. Without any doubt, this moment of splendorous economic Haro growth matched up with the train station inauguration, artificial light's and telephone's arrival, inauguration of the Enological Station and opening of Spanish bank new office.

Industry in these moments is the sector which is experiencing the greatest growth , in Haro municipal area there are two industrial areas, "Entrecarreteras" and "Fuente Ciega", and, of course, we cannot forget the wineries. The sector is represented basically by industries linked to food, which cover a half of the census establishment; although wineries cover the main sector workforce. From the remaining industrial areas, it highlights the textil, following by far for leather, footwear and rubber, and in a secondary level there are chemical, wood and cork industry.

In the Haro economical area highlights, over all, the tertiary services, because the area influence covers Rioja Alta and alaveses municipality. The tourism is very important in its economy, because a lot of establishments are created with this aim, and others live on them.
